As we get closer and closer to our next meet this Saturday we are rushing to get everything fixed and finished. Today we worked on getting the bucket to extend vertically and horizontally without losing our pulleys and getting high enough to put the balls and cubes into the lander. We were still having trouble with the bucket being so heavy that it tilts forwards making it too short to reach the top of the lander. Hopefully we will have it fixed in time for drivers practice tomorrow!
We have been working one some minor problems with our drawer slides. When we raise up our bucket, it would tilt down and wouldn't stay upright. The Build Team is working to straighten out the problem, and soon Baby Smaug's head will be raised high once more. :D
We have Baby Smaug back in working order. His head is back on, and the sweep slides have been replaced.
Today we are going to the St. Mary's Food Pantry for our First Friday shift.
Other than that, this Saturday most of the team is going to be helping out at our local FLL competition. We know that we'll be helping out all over the place. From field reset to reefing. It's going to be so fun! The build team has taken off Baby Smaug's "head." In other words, they have taken off the sweep, the sweep slides, and another pair of sweep slides. We are going to replace at least one pair of the sweep slides with slides that are used on drawers. We are hoping that this will help us out in competion.
We are going to do a small redesign. It will be nothing major, just upgrading a couple of our mechanisms.
We are going to redesign one set of our slides; the pair of slides that extends our sweep. While right now it takes about ten to fifteen seconds to extend; we hope to make it extend in about five seconds. We had our first meet of the season. We got second place! We did have a little trouble with connection between our phones. Our builders managed to fix that problem, though we did have some trouble that Baby Smaug would stop and start. We hope to have this problem fixed soon.
Tomorrow we leave for Maryville University for our first meet! Baby Smaug is almost ready for his grand debut.
The phone has a mount on the side of the robot. There is siding on the robot, making it look sleek. Pictures of the robot's progress. We are still working out some kinks in the bucket and sweep design. On Monday we had a design that was way too bulky so we scrapped that and made this current one. The sweep is working but we are having trouble picking up the cube minerals. Levi and Dalton went over to the Criddle Ac and Heating workshop and used some of his amazing tools to make 3 pieces for the robot. A small piece, a medium sized piece, and a large piece. They made three pieces so we could experiment with the robot to see what would best accomplish the task.😄 Dalton made a change to our sweep. He taped two of the zip ties together to add extra traction making it easier to pick up the cube minerals.
